We all need loving and kindness

I enjoyed listening to the loving-kindness CD this weekend. It made me feel relaxed and his head for the very opposite side for the assignment.  Once the door opened, reality was standing there waiting impatiently for its turn to hit me in the face. It seems that I am my own worst critic and need to practice what I preach. Not so long ago, when I use to sleep for the more than two hours at a time, I use to listen to various relaxation audios. Look at me now; I can’t sleep for more than two hours at a time. I can put one and one together, so I need to work on relaxing more.
This past Saturday, I returned to California from Florida. A friend that I have not seen for 23 years came through town at that same time, and stopped to visit. While catching up, she let me know of her recent diagnosis of breast cancer, with harsh treatments to come. She asked me to pray for her because she believes the support of prayer will help her fight the disease. Well during the exercise, the instructor said to think of a person to place loving-kindness upon, so I thought of my long-time friend. When asked to place those same emotions upon myself, It felt good to forgave myself for being so self-critical, even after the door opened and reality hit me in the face.

  1. LaVenus,
I am glad that you enjoyed listening to the audio cd. I did too and I think that I will be able to incorporate this into my everyday life.

I am sorry to hear about your friend and yes it is nice when we are able to help support and be there for our friends.

I think that the power of prayer is so under estimated by todays society. I think that it is important for everyone to believe in it because it is definitely worth doing. I think that prayer if used the right way can definitely help produce good results and help us through rough times.

    Again, prayers to your friend!

  2. Hello LaVenus:

I too enjoyed listening to the loving-kindness CD. I became very relaxed and felt at peace. We all need to practice what we preach in one way or another, so I definitely can relate to your statement. One thing that was a little difficult for me was when I was asked to give loving kindness to someone who had hurt me dearling. It was hard, but I dit it and now I feel a sense of relief that I have actually forgiven this person. Something else that made me feel good is when I reach out to a family member who is suffering. It felt as if I were actually sending here healing messages though my mind. It's hard to describe, but I know in my mind and in my heart that she will be just fine. I will have to get into the habit of doing these exercises daily for my own benefit and self-healing.
